FEBRUARY 10, 2008: Dallas-based Gospel Great Fred Hammond brings home a Grammy Award Multi-platinum, award winning gospel artist Fred Hammond won in the category for Best Contemporary R&B Gospel Album at the 50th annual Grammy awards ceremony in Los Angeles for his Free To Worship project. Other projects nominated were Grateful by the artist Coko (formerly of SWV) J. Moss' - V2, Trin-i-tee 5:7's - T5, and Alone but not Alone recorded by Marvin Winans. Hammond began his career playing bass for Marvin Winans' family group known as "The Winans" but soon burst onto the scene making a name for himself in1985 as founder and member of the ground-breaking men's group Commissioned. For more than 27 years, music listeners around the world have known Fred Hammond as a talented songwriter, bassist and vocalist. His writing, producing and arrangement styles have influenced many of the R&B groups of this generation including Boys to Men and Jodeci to name a few. This is the reputation that earned him the titles, "The Architect of Urban Praise and Worship" and the "Babyface" of gospel. (A nod to the genius of Producer/Writer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds) Surprisingly, this is the first Grammy win for Hammond though few gospel artists can boast of the consistency of sales, radio airplay and concert appearances that he has achieved over the course of his career. "I really haven't focused on winning awards during my career but I am honored by this very special award and the Academy's recognition", says Hammond. Since his relocation to Dallas, Texas from Detroit in 2005 Hammond has become ensconced in the community by founding the urban entertainment company fHammond Family Entertainment Corporation. In his time here, Hammond has worked to give opportunities to Dallas-based talent and production companies. The Free To Worship live DVD was recorded with Dallas-based singers and musicians at The Potter's House in Dallas where world-renown Bishop T.D. Jakes is Pastor. Hammond broke into the film industry as Executive Producer for Rainforest / Sony Pictures' feature film - The Gospel. Over the last seven months Hammond shot "Christmas... Who Needs It" a small budget independent film. His 15,000 square foot production studio is located just outside of downtown Dallas. In preparation for shooting an internet concert series, he is currently auditioning Dallas / Ft. Worth talent. "The Gospel Must Be Seen" is Hammond's company's motto, and true to that statement Hammond is continuing to develop an internet tv network (Fred tv), as well as an internet radio station. Fans can already listen to his weekly internet radio program called Radio Fred. For more on this, concert dates and other information about Hammond's projects, log onto www.fhammondfamilyent.com.
